Proof My Wife Is Smarter Than Me (sigh...)

"Nobody can go back and start a new beginning, but anyone can start today and make a new ending" - Maria Robinson

If you've been following me on Twitter, you'll know that I have been tossing around the idea of writing a book about innovation and/or organizational creativity.  I have been struggling to come up with a book layout that breaks new ground, shares something new and is focused on the innovation practitioner.  "Struggling" doesn't even come close to describing it.  I've also mulled over the idea of converting some of the better blog posts into a book.  Again, not real earth shattering stuff.

So...after another frustrating day...my wife asks me, "Why do you want to write a book so bad?"

To which I reply, "Because almost everyone else on that Top 10 list Chuck Frey pulled together has written a book, so I think I should have one too.  Don't you?"

And here is the clarity only someone detached from a problem can provide...She said, "I thought the whole idea behind what you do is to help people think differently, to not follow along with everyone else, to think up new ideas and stuff."

And with that one comment...all thoughts and frustrations about the book vanished.  She's absolutely right, and I'm sure she'll never let me forget it!

So the book is on hold.  Not saying I'll never write one, but my new challenge is to come up with a new, exciting and informative way to share my ideas, theories, models, etc. on organizational creativity and innovation that isn't book based.

I am going to follow my own advice on creative problem solving and have already stated the problem aloud and written it down.  Now, I'll incubate for awhile and seek out some new experiences to feed my sub-conscious mind.  Don't know when the answer will come to me, but you will certainly know about it when it does!!!

Hope you are all enjoying the holiday season!
